Cardiac care nurses treat and care for patients with a variety of heart diseases or conditions. This can include patients suffering from coronary artery disease or congestive heart failure, or those recovering from angioplasty or bypass surgery. Cardiac care nurses monitor the hearts of patients of all ages, and may help administer heart medications and perform stress test evaluations on a regular basis, or take care of more urgent heart issues, such as assisting in defibrillation. This type of nurse works closely with a cardiologist to expedite quality care for heart patients.

An estimated 80 million (nearly one in three) Americans have cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In the United States alone, more than 850,000 deaths are attributed annually to cardiovascular disease, and more than 8 million Americans have had a heart attack. Nearly 7 million cardiovascular procedures are performed annually in U.S. hospitals. Cardiac rehabilitation is a comprehensive program of patient evaluation, risk factor reduction physical activity, and longitudinal care designed to reduce the effects of cardiovascular disease, and is an effective means of mitigating disease and disability. Family physicians incorporate many of the fundamental principles of comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation into their daily practices. However, the use of dedicated cardiac rehabilitation programs serves to further reinforce the principles of nutrition, physical activity, risk factor reduction, and wellness. Cardiac rehabilitation services are underused in the United States, even though there is evidence that structured programs improve quality of life and reduce mortality for patients with coronary artery disease and other select forms of cardiovascular disease.

Functional assessment alters by traditional diagnosis because in that skills are evaluated rather than microbial symptoms or Characteristics. Psychosocial interventions have awoke in cardiac rehabilitation programmes and are promoted by the National Service Framework for Heart Diseases and the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. Cardiovascular Nursing entail Rehabilitation functional assessment, Medical rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease, Drug Rehabilitation of cardiovascular disease complications,  Rehabilitation care for cardiovascular diseases, Organization and management of rehabilitation services, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.

Cardiac marker diagnostic testing measures the concentration of certain proteins, i.e., biomarkers, which indicate the presence or severity of cardiovascular disease .Among the most prevalent CVDs are sudden cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction congestive heart failure and atherosclerosis. Every year, an estimated 17 million people worldwide die from a CVD. This study also provides a thorough analysis of the companies known to be marketing, manufacturing or developing cardiac marker products in the U.S. and worldwide, as well as detailed tables, charts and figures covering the U.S., Europe and Asia markets. Cardiac biomarkers evaluate the heart function and aid in identifying the complexity and severity of procedures further required to treat the cardiovascular disease. The primary indications for cardiovascular diseases are Acute Coronary Syndrome which includes Angina Pectoris and Acute Myocardial Infraction Congestive Heart Failure, Peripheral Artery Disease and others.

Echocardiogram, indicate as a cardiac echo, sonogram of the heart. Echocardiography customizes standard two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart. Auscultation is a skill that needs clinical experience, a noval stethoscope and excellent listening skills. Sphygmomanometer is a device used to measure and analyse the blood pressure, Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging is a medical imaging procedure for the non-invasive analysis of the function and structure of the cardiovascular system. A Cardiac catheterization is an invasive procedure to access the coronary circulation and blood filled chambers of the heart using a catheter. Cardiac Nursing session also contains Echocardiography, Transthoracic echocardiogram, Transoesophageal echocardiogram, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, Cardiac stress test, Auscultation, Sphygmomanometer, Optical coherence tomography, Coronary catheterization.

The telemetry nurse specializes in caring for patients with heart disease, complications of heart disease and/or heart failure, or other medical issues which require continuous telemetry monitoring. This also includes caring for patients who are recovering from cardiac intervention, such as a cardiac stent or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. It's important to note that this type of nurse does not work in the Cardiac Care Unit, which is a type of ICU which cares for cardiac patients. The patient on the telemetry floor has often transferred from the ICU and is now considered stable, but requires close monitoring.

According to the American Public Health Association, public health nursing is defined as "…the practice of promoting and protecting the health of populations using knowledge from nursing, social, and public health sciences." Instead of being stationed in a hospital or clinic setting, public health nurses reach out to patients in the community. This allows them to assess their environment, available resources, and potential health care needs.

Nurse attorneys are licensed as both registered nurses and attorneys. This dual role allows them to integrate law into their healthcare practice or organization, or address healthcare concerns in their law practice. Healthcare cannot be delivered without laws governing practice and regulations to ensure safe patient care. In the complex world of healthcare, more and more crossover is seen between the two entities.

Complex and challenging, Intensive Care (ICU) or critical care nursing requires an advanced technical skill set, a calm manner, and a positive life philosophy. ICU nurses provide care for life-threatening medical conditions and injuries and may work with patients from the neonatal ward to seniors. These patients have often experienced traumatic illnesses or accidents. The role is complex, as ICU nurses work to maintain and restore health to patients through careful management of their various bodily systems. Many nurses choose to specialize in working with a particular segment of the population. ICU nurses require excellent communication and leadership abilities, as well as the capacity to carry out complex directions.

Healthcare administrators play a key role in the operations of a healthcare organization, managing a variety of clinical and administrative procedures. They typically have oversight over an entire department or area in terms of budgets, staffing, professional development, maintenance of patient records, and ensuring compliance with regulations. This is a good position for someone who has an interest in healthcare but may possess more business acumen than clinical knowledge.

Forensic nurses specialize in caring for patients who are the victims of trauma, violence, and abuse. They have a foundation in the criminal justice system as well as nursing. They are on the front lines when victims of crimes need help the most, providing sensitive, compassionate care while meticulously collecting relevant evidence that may be needed later in court. Some forensic nurses choose to specialize in sexual assault/trauma by becoming certified as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE).

The ER or 'Emergency Room' nurse is a person who is great at quick thinking, decision-making, and multitasking. He or she has the training, aptitude and willingness to adapt to whatever the day happens to bring, as every day is different in the emergency room. Best suited to this role are nurses who appreciate the fast-pace and challenge of not knowing exactly who is coming through the door and what may be wrong with them. The ER nurse enjoys helping patients, and doesn't allow the emotions of patients in trauma to affect their mind-set.

At the top of nursing management positions within a healthcare organization is the position of the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) or sometimes referred to as Chief Nurse Executive (CNE). The CNO's role is complex and requires several years of nursing and leadership experience to be up to the task. They are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily activity within the nursing department by being the spokesperson for nurses while planning, organizing, and directing the overall operations of nursing and patient care services. Chief Nursing Officers take into consideration the business perspective of the hospital system, best practice, and the needs of nursing staff while facilitating efficient and effective departmental operations. Today's CNOs are frequently involved in implementing the nursing department budget while achieving consistent quality patient outcomes and adhering to healthcare delivery guidelines and standards.

A case management nurse oversees the long-term care plan for his or her patients. Often working with a specific type of patient requiring ongoing medical care (e.g., geriatrics, HIV/AIDS or cancer patients), the case management nurse collaborates with other medical professionals to create and implement a long-term care plan that insures a patient gets the comprehensive care they need. Case management nursing is a particularly rewarding field that allows nurses to develop long-term relationships with their patients, often working with them for the entire course of their illness and treatment.

Typically only available in large hospitals and clinics, and open only to nurses with suitable credentials and practical experience in a specialty role, the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Nurse must be a patient-care specialist in all aspects of the Cardiac Catheterization laboratory, or Cath Lab. The role does vary, but commonly, the Cath Lab nurse assists the Cardiac Interventionist in performing diagnostic and therapeutic percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on patients with heart disease and defects. PCI helps to diagnose and treat myocardial infarction and typically includes placing stents to coronary arteries. Closely monitoring the patient for improvement or complications, administering medications including conscious sedation and assisting the Interventionist are some of the tasks of this role.

Cardiac nursing is a specialty focused on preventing and treating conditions related to the heart. Like other nursing specialties, a profession in cardiac nursing requires an understanding of normal cardiac anatomy and physiology, keen assessment and monitoring skills, vast knowledge about cardiac disease and conditions, and ongoing education related to recommended prevention methods and treatment options. Cardiac nurses may work in inpatient or outpatient settings, care for medical or surgical patients, and see patients through acute illness or help them manage chronic disease.
In this Cardiac Nursing Resource Centre, we’ve put together resources to help you provide the best care to the patients you see. Nurses should understand how AI is utilized in patient care. Some transformational uses of the technology include accelerating innovation, improving decision-making, automating and speeding up processes, and saving overall costs. In healthcare, AI is seen as a potential solution for handling massive increases in complex medical data, but only 15% to 20% of end users are using it to drive changes in the delivery of patient care.

Happy 2020! It is a particularly special year for nurses around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) designated 2020 as the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth and to recognize the essential role nurses play in global health. History shows that Florence Nightingale was a woman of ideals, research, action, and accomplishment. The breadth and depth of initiatives associated with the “Year of the Nurse and Midwife” are well aligned with Nightingale's legacy and would most certainly make her proud
